Codependency Retreat
Are You Ready To Get To The Root Of Your Trauma?
If you’ve long struggled with the shadow of codependency and familial dysfunction in your life—whether you regularly fall into unhappy relationships or overexert yourself just to balance the scales—then you are probably looking for long-term relief from complex trauma.
Traditional weekly therapy is not your only option for trauma repair, and in fact, intensive treatment offers even more in the way of healing old wounds. Through our team’s highly structured experiential therapy intensive, you can achieve what might take months or years of weekly counseling in only a matter of days.
Who You Are
After decades spent at the mercy of codependent patterns that continue to negatively impact your relationships and self-worth, you are ready for lasting change. Having already identified trauma and its effects in the marathon of weekly therapy, you’re officially trained for the sprint of an intensive, where you can experience uninterrupted time and space to heal core wounds.
Now, you’re prepared to spend a week focusing on yourself as you work alongside a trained and passionate codependency specialist who has made deep, lasting trauma recovery their life’s work.

Welcome To Return To Self : An Intensive Retreat Through The Codependency Clinic
Before the neglect and abuse you endured at the hands of narcissistic, unstable, addicted, borderline, or otherwise emotionally immature caretakers, you were your own authentic self. Our role is to guide you on the journey back to that state of wholeness as you learn to reparent yourself through the power of intensive experiential therapy.
What To Expect
Our state-of-the-art codependency intensive is a multi-day retreat occurring in Northeastern California for groups of up to six participants. The retreat schedule is designed to offer intensive therapy sessions, independent reflection, community support, and ample time for integration.
Intensives occur on location in the Nevada City area, where participants are invited to experience the benefit of focused, uninterrupted treatment. Our accommodations are clean, spacious, and highly rated, and we take every measure to ensure the utmost comfort throughout your stay.
Participants should plan to devote 1 week to the retreat, arriving on the first night for a shared dinner and leaving on the last day following brunch. Beyond that, breakfasts are coordinated ahead of time during the intake, lunch is made from scratch each day, and dinners are coordinated by each participant on their own time (whether they cook themselves or enjoy one of the area’s many restaurants). The highest quality wholesome and organic ingredients are used in every meal we prepare, and we do our best to accommodate all food allergies and sensitivities.
Additional logistical details will be discussed in your consultation call, and you can visit our FAQ below for more information about cost and other details.
Our Approach
As highly experienced trauma-informed clinicians, we know that sustained healing requires a combination of attachment awareness, body-based interventions, and a skills focus. Alongside somatic practices and experiential therapy approaches, our Return To Self retreat draws heavily from the work of Pia Mellody—the godmother of codependency recovery as it relates to familial dysfunction and complex childhood trauma.
Through this retreat, our goal is to help you:
Learn the 5 core symptoms of codependence
Understand how those symptoms were set up in childhood by your family of origin
Identify how those symptoms are showing up in your adult relationships
Develop skills and insights for reducing distress around early trauma
Gain clarity about what you need to create a functional adult self
Create a tangible plan for working toward the life that you want
Unlike many other intensive retreats, each of our therapists has done their own individual work with the Pia Mellody model, witnessing firsthand the life-altering transformation that occurs when complex trauma survivors learn to meaningfully reparent themselves. Our methodology is one-of-a-kind, adapting body-based skills and insights that actually heal complex trauma, and we really care about the work we do.
Meet Dr. Rachel Rosenfeld, Retreat Leader And Founder Of The Codependency Clinic
Dr. Rosenfeld is a clinical psychologist and supervisor with decades of personal and professional experience working in trauma. She coordinates and administers every Return To Self retreat, using a tailor-made curriculum with the most effective, evidence-based experiential treatment approaches in mind.
As a student of Pia Mellody herself, Rachel was not only encouraged to share these foundational concepts with her clients—she received express permission to utilize Mellody’s trademark concepts as the blueprint for The Codependency Clinic’s transformational retreats. Since 2019, Rachel has completed numerous retreats with great success, evidenced by the fact that participants achieve a year’s worth or more of treatment in the span of just a few days (you can find a link to client testimonials below).
Some of us are lucky enough to find a calling in life; through codependency retreats, Rachel has definitely found hers! To learn more about her training and background, visit Rachel’s About Page.
Frequently Asked Questions About Our Intensive Therapy Retreats
Is intensive therapy worth the money?
While some people experience sticker shock when considering intensive therapy, the reality is that focused, uninterrupted therapy tends to yield faster and longer-lasting results than intermittent weekly or biweekly sessions—and it costs less in the long term.
Retreat participants regularly report that they accomplished more healing and repair over the course of a week than they had in a year, and our therapists know from personal and professional experience that this process is incredibly effective.
How am I going to pay for the retreat?
Our Return To Self retreat costs $3,950 (with room upgrades available); half the fee is required upfront as a deposit to reserve your spot.
For participants who are eligible for insurance coverage, we can submit a claim for reimbursements of $1,000 or more. We also offer in-house 0% financing for the remaining balance after the initial deposit is paid. Details can be further discussed in your consultation call.
Shouldn’t time off from work be spent doing something more relaxing?
While vacation and rest time are no doubt important to your healing, intensive therapy is one of the most valuable ways you can spend your time—especially if you’ve struggled with the ongoing effects of codependency and complex trauma for most of your life. Our retreats are designed to help you heal and reparent yourself, ultimately creating more space in your life to bolster self-esteem, maintain healthy relationships, and do what fulfills you.
Don’t make time spent away from work an excuse to put off healing! You can get so much out of this retreat, setting yourself up for a more peaceful, relaxing existence.
Am I going to be
comfortable?
We know that in order for intensive therapy to work, participants need to be comfortable to focus. That’s why we conduct our intensives in some of Nevada City’s most serene, high-end retreat locations.
If there is anything we can do to make your stay more comfortable, please let us know during your consultation call.
